Literary Analysis
"In the year 2044, the world has been suffering" (WIki,Douglas Coupland,) with a major energy crisis leaving many without jobs. With reduced amounts of fossil fuels and global warming on the rise, widespread social problems plague the nations of the world turning the world from stagnation to decline. Hunger and crime rises as companies create monopolies to stay in business in the recession that has been occurring over the past couple years. As more people lose their jobs they begin turning to the big companies that offer lower pay. People begin going to OASIS which is a virtual reality world. OASIS is an established platform that companies begin establishing jobs that people start heading to through virtual reality. People use visors to escape from the real world because the energy crisis and to escape from the nation that is falling apart around them. Oasis, the most stable market, gets popularized when the owner of Oasis dies and leaves a his will in the game. The main character loses his job and lives in an apartment where he becomes the lead person in the search of James Halliday's will. Wade Watts currently is leading the search of James Holiday will along with all his friends who are top on the leaderboard. As they search, they come across many obstacles that show how tenacious the characters are. Wade Watts helps out his friends and that almost gets him killed in the simulation.
Wade Watts and his friends are imprisoned in the physical company OASIS with the all people who attempted to used virtual game evasion to accomplish their needs. Many people likely were jailed to prevent them from getting Holiday's will that finances the OASIS company. The dedication of Wade Watts proves useful as does his stubbornness and doesn't hinder him from escaping OASIS, warning his friends and accomplishing his goal with his friends. A Interesting recurring theme I found within this story is the progression in life that characterizes his behavior and encompasses attributes such as stubbornness, tenaciousness, and adaptability. Wade Watts perceives different ways in each situation that he encounters in an abstract manner and manages to avoid or prevent his obstacle at hand. A good example is when Wade was stuck in OASIS and hacked his way out during the several months he’s been there and warning his friends. His character vigorously uses the resources in his possession to exploit the very system that was created to put people in check and used it against itself. The genius behind his method is insane and quite repetitive in the story as he always manages to find a way out of a problem that plagues his goal. Just when the reader think that this story will end badly , Wade saves the day, gets the girl out of the friend zone and he finds Holiday's will.
